Blog 2

Chapter one of the book was very informative for me regarding my culture's rise within the film industry. However the segment about the UCLA film school stood out the most. Before this course I never really knew much about the barriers Black film aficionados had to face and overcome. Haile Gerima compared Hollywood to a "white supremacy structure" and stated that unless you operated within their made up paradigm, you opportunities would be diminished. That was eye opening for me and I also love the fact that he left Cali for Washington D.C. to pursue his dream while teaching his peers how too as well.
