Bobo and the Color Purple
In the article by Bobo, I do believe that Bobo did scapegoat Steven Spielberg. According to many people, because of the way Spielberg represented the movie it could be said that he deserved it. He strayed away from the original book and portrayed African American men in a brutal and violent manner and African American women as powerless humans. The movie stirred much tension Bobo showed that by talking about the male and female disagreement on the movie. Many males disagreed with the movie. They did not like the way the that African American men were being portrayed. The women on the other side didn't mind how they were portrayed because it showed the oppression that the women faced. The men did not like the movie while the women did not mind the movie but enjoyed the book because they were praised in it. I feel as though Bobo felt that Spielberg did not do a good job because she is a woman she would like better representation of women in the movie. I believe that she feels that like the book, women should be the main focus in the movie too!
