I recently saw the movie, The Help. The two main black maids, Aibileen Clark and Minny Jackson, perfectly fit Reid's depiction of Black females in films. For one, they are maids who take care of their white person's house, cook the family meals and take care of the white children; consequently, Reid talked about how Black females are shown as domestic and always working for the white people, while still having to try and take care of their own family. Although they are maids, they are always dressed in crappy, torn dresses and aprons, and the White females were always dressed in nice, classy dresses, which fulfills Reid's argument that Black women are shown as less feminine than White women. Finally, for being such a sort of serious movie, these two maids have a lot of funny parts and say quite a few jokes, which agrees with Reid's argument that laughter and jokes are presented, so things do not become too serious, and the Blacks are usually the ones saying the jokes.
