Independent vs. Hollywood

   Many can say that independent films are very different from the mainstream Hollywood films. I agree. The Hollywood main stream films all contain actors that are renknowned. I've noticed that the Hollywood films that are all in the same genre have similar story lines. Whenever I go to the movies I feel as though I am watching the same things. It has become the norm for me to determine the story line and the outcome of the movies. Because they are getting funded by people that want to make money. The purpose of Hollywood films is to make profits. So that is why all the movies are similar.
   Independent films have more leeway to do what they want. Because they don't have to follow such great guidelines and are not restricted from what they are, they end up being more raw. Independent films in my opinion are more relatable to people. They are more raw.
   When it comes to portraying African Americans in films, Independent films tend to show the truth. They depict what the life of an African American is and it can be more relatable to. Most Hollywood films that try to portray the African American lifestyle only portray stereotypes. They portray what sells. In some ways it seems as though the stereotypical portrayal of African Americans in movies is almost in a satirical manner.
   Although I love the actors that perform in mainstream Hollywood movies it is refreshing to see fresh faces in Independent movies. Independent films are able to do what they want. There is less restraint on them and they don't have to work under a certain criteria.
