Independent vs. Hollywood

As technology has developed and skills improved, it has become more difficult to distinguish independent from mainstream films; however, besides technical differences, there are also artistic and budget differences. Independent films can be said to allow for more artistic expression and personality because the director and writers have more freedom over the content and story lines without the political pressures of a bigger corporations. The budgets are also known to be significantly less than major Hollywood blockbusters. Advertising and promotion can also be a lot less for "indi" films because of the budgeting issues. Some examples of black independent films include: "Do the Right Thing", "Def by Temptation", and "Monster's Ball."
